Twitter has millions of active users, all sending thousands of tweets every minute. In this sea of content, it can be hard to come up with new things to say — so why not outsource the work to an AI?

Seriously though, Tweet Hunter’s AI Tweet Generator is a free tool that analyzes your tweets, then tries to come up with a bunch of new posts that sound like something you’d write. The site has been going semi-viral over the last few days, with Twitter users sharing the AI’s best attempts at imitating them.

Here’s how it works, and how to make your own.

How to use the AI Tweet Generator

The generator is a free tool made by the social media marketing firm Tweet Hunter, and you can find it on their website.

Once there, just type your Twitter username — or the username of anyone who you want to see tweets in the style of — into the @twitter_handle field. Press Enter/Return or tap the arrow icon to start generating.

After a moment, the site will return with up to nine fake tweets.

Every tweet has three buttons on it: A Post on Twitter option that you can click to share the fake tweet, and thumbs up and thumbs down buttons you can use to rate how accurate the fake tweet is. Using the thumb icons trains the bot to write more accurately.

Just note that the AI isn’t very smart. The tweets it creates are usually either nonsense, vague inspirational quotes, or extremely formal messages about finance. Don’t be shocked if the large majority of your fake tweets don’t sound anything like you.

What to do if the AI Tweet Generator doesn’t work

Tweet Hunter’s AI tool has gotten pretty popular recently, and occasionally the site gets too overloaded to work properly. When this happens, the site might stop responding or give you a message saying that you’ve “reached the limit.”

If the generator isn’t working for you, your best bet is to just wait a few minutes, and then try again. Try to wait at least ten minutes.

Alternatively, if the site is telling you that you hit a limit, try using a different internet connection, or connect to a VPN.

You shouldn’t immediately refresh the page, since this puts more stress on the servers, leading to more crashes. But if you’ve tried a few times and the page isn’t responding at all, a refresh might help.
